FTI is building European hotspot for entertainment technologies in the Rupel region and We Are One World is a major partner
Friday, June 16, 2023 - The Flemish Government has chosen the Rupel region as the focus of a unique employment and innovation project in entertainment technology, which will be one of the highlights of the large-scale social and innovation project Flanders Technology & Innovation (FTI). The plan is to develop innovation sites through the FTI platform that can grow into the foremost European hotspot for research, innovation and creation in the field of entertainment technology. Flanders is in a strong position to anchor this leading role. WAOW will actively participate in this fabulous, ambitious project. Other partners are Howest (Kortrijk), imec (Leuven) and Seeds and Growth for Media (VRT and Thomas More). The Flemish government is now looking for suitable locations in the Rupel region and is looking at De Schorre, De Klamp and Catenberg, among others. Thanks to this project, some long-standing mobility plans (e.g. the extension of the N171) will also be completed.
“We feel a lot of love for the region where we have been able to organise our festival for twenty years and where we also see a lot of potential. As an entertainment company, we have ambitious plans to go a step further in technology and education. For example, we are already investing in AREAL, a Flemish tech start-up that has created a completely new sound experience. We are also organising the DJ Academy in Boom for the second summer in a row and we are still looking for a permanent location for the innovative recording studios to shape the digital festival. In this way we are providjng additional employment and innovative training. In recent years we have invested heavily in De Schorre and, together with the province and the municipalities, we have ensured that the park is an enjoyable place to be all year round: for both local residents and tourists. Since Tomorrowland has had a permanent place in Boom en Rumst for almost twenty years, we really want to anchor ourselves in this beautiful region.”
